Indigenous realities within a changing planet

Intersecting global crises – including climate change and changing geopolitical circumstances – continue to challenge Indigenous futures. Increasing global interest in Indigenous knowledges has fueled dialogue within both multi-lateral organizations as well as in varied institutional structures that necessitates ongoing reflection by Indigenous Peoples and their place within international research landscapes. Dr. Redvers will explore and reflect on the state of Indigenous Peoples in international research settings, highlighting key challenges and opportunities within a changing planet.

Speaker Bio

Dr. Nicole Redvers is a member of the Denínu Kų́ę́́ First Nation (NWT), and is an Associate Professor, Western Research Chair, and Director of Indigenous Planetary Health at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University. She also currently serves as the Vice President Research at the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC). Her work engages a breadth of scholarly projects attempting to bridge gaps between Indigenous and EuroWestern ways of knowing as it pertains to individual, community, and planetary health. Dr. Redvers is the author of the trade paperback book titled, ‘The Science of the Sacred: Bridging Global Indigenous Medicine Systems and Modern Scientific Principles.’
