Abstract: This presentation will summarize findings from a program of research focused on psychotic disorders among migrant groups in Ontario. Research using population-based data suggest that these groups have an increased risk of developing a psychotic illness, face disparities in access to psychiatric treatment and more aversive contacts with services, and are perceived to exhibit different symptom and behavior profiles at first hospitalization. Recent evidence on second-generation migrants and novel risk factors, such as migrant first language, will be presented, and future directions for this body of work will be discussed.
