WSCS uses several forms of patrol to respond effectively and maintain a visible presence across Western properties.
- Vehicle patrol: supports rapid response and coverage across campus roads, parking areas, and Western properties
- Bicycle patrol: allows officers to access pathways, pedestrian areas, and locations that may be difficult to reach by vehicle
- Foot patrol: increases officer visibility and supports direct interaction with students, employees, and visitors
- Proactive patrol: helps identify safety, security, and property concerns before they escalate
- Directed patrol: focuses attention on specific locations or concerns based on reports, trends, or operational needs
Patrol activity is adjusted throughout the day based on calls for service, campus activity, events, and identified safety needs.

What to Expect When Officers Respond
When WSCS special constables respond, they will assess the situation, address immediate safety concerns, and determine the appropriate next steps.
- Officers may speak with the people involved and any witnesses
- They may ask for identification and details about what occurred
- They may document the incident and collect relevant information or evidence
- They may provide safety directions, referrals, or information about available supports
- They may involve London Police Service, emergency services, or another Western unit when appropriate
The response will depend on the circumstances, the level of risk, and the information available at the time.
