Bill Chantler
Director, Campus Safety and Emergency Services
Welcome to the webpage for Campus Safety and Emergency Services at Western University and the affiliated university colleges—Huron University College and King’s University College.
Western enjoys vibrant campuses where students, faculty, staff and guests are welcome to share ideas, conduct research, learn and work in a positive and safe environment. Your safety, security and well-being while at Western are priorities for Western’s leadership and the dedicated Campus Safety and Emergency Services team.
Campus Safety and Emergency Services includes the Western Special Constable Service, Fire Safety, Emergency Management, Communications Centre, Western Foot Patrol and Building Access Control.
On campus, you will see members of our Fire Safety team conducting fire drills, providing fire safety education and ensuring our fire safety equipment and infrastructure are in good working order. You will see Western Foot Patrol volunteers providing safe-walk services and rides. You will also see our Special Constables patrolling on foot, on bicycles and in cruisers; visiting with more than 5,500 students living in on-campus residences; and interacting with students, student groups, faculty, staff and visitors.
Our communications operators are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to assist the campus community. Our Building Access Control team supports the security of Western’s buildings and spaces while helping ensure appropriate access.
Behind the scenes, Emergency Management helps ensure Western is prepared to respond to major incidents and events, such as severe weather, and maintains the Alert WesternU emergency notification system.
All CSES activities support the student experience and quality of campus life by promoting safety and security and contributing to a sense of inclusion and well-being at Western University.
Best regards,
Bill Chantler
