Dr. Stephen Van Hedger is an Assistant Professor in Psychology at Huron University and a member of the Brain and Mind Institute at Western. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago and completed postdoctoral training both at the University of Chicago and at Western University. His research focuses on principles of learning, memory, and pattern recognition. The way in which he integrates these areas of research is through the study of perceptual expertise – specifically, how it develops and is how it is maintained. Specific topics of research include absolute pitch, statistical learning in speech and music, and degraded speech understanding.
