SWIMMING

Recreational swim is available as one of the sport options (pending pool availability). Swimming is NOT available for Wednesday or Friday programs due to long course in the pool. Structured programing will not take place during the swim time.

All students must complete a swim test prior to entering the pool (with the exception of those who are pre-designated a life jacket). The test will require students to swim across the width of the shallow-end of the pool (instructors will be present in the water to supervise and assist if necessary). Any student who does not pass the test will be required to wear a life jacket, regardless of whether he/she has passed any swimming levels.

Whether a child passes a swim test is at the sole discretion of the certified lifeguard on duty.

We ask that teachers please check with their students regarding their swimming ability before the class arrives and provide all relevant information to instructors prior to the start of program.

If you require a letter of verification regarding lifeguard qualifications in order to receive approval from your school board, please CLICK HERE!

FACILITIES

Wild Western Days programming will primarily take place in the Western Student Recreation Centre. The centre is a state-of-the-art facility with five gymnasia, three multi-purpose activity rooms, and a fifty meter pool. Programming will also take place at the University Tennis Centre, Thompson arena, Thames Hall gymnasia, outdoor floor hockey rink and multiple outdoor fields. HEALTH INFORMATION

We strongly recommend teachers bring in a list of every student's emergency contacts (parents) & phone numbers. In the case of an emergency Ontario Health Card information will be required. Our primary facilities for emergencies are Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic and University Hospital both located on campus.

SPECIAL NEEDS

Sport Western is committed to the inclusion of all students. If students require additional support to attend a Wild Western Day, please e-mail swcamps@uwo.ca or contact us at 519.661.2007 prior to or at the time of registration.

We are dedicated to providing all students with an environment that will encourage social and physical development and must ensure that staffing resources are sufficient to accomplish this goal. Occasionally, additional support outside of our regular staff is required and our program coordinator may request that you provide this support.
