Construction Notice
Sport Western families and participants are advised to plan ahead when travelling to campus this summer as significant city construction continues on Western Road and Philip Aziz Avenue.
The City of London's Western Road / Sarnia Road / Philip Aziz Avenue Improvement Project began in spring 2026 and is expected to continue through summer 2027. The project includes upgrades to roads, watermains, sidewalks, cycling infrastructure, storm sewers, and intersections to improve safety and accessibility for all users.
Philip Aziz Avenue Closure until July 2027
Philip Aziz Avenue is currently closed and is expected to remain closed until approximately July 2027 as part of the corridor reconstruction project. Access to Alumni Stadium, South Valley parking, and surrounding facilities will continue to be maintained via Huron Drive.
Western Road Closure July 6–20, 2026
Beginning July 6, Western Road will be fully closed in both directions just south of the Sarnia Road intersection - between Althouse College and Sarnia Road - for approximately two weeks. This closure is required to complete underground watermain and sanitary sewer connections. Signed detours will be in place throughout the closure.
Recommended Routes into Campus Include:
- Recommended routes into campus include:
- Richmond Street - University Drive entrance to campus
- Windermere Rd - Perth Drive entrance to campus
- Any routes that include Western Road/Sarnia Road intersection (expect delays and lane closures at Western Road)
- For all of the above, once you enter campus you would make your way to Huron Drive to access South Valley Parking, Western Alumni Stadium, and nearby recreation facilities
- The City of London is encouraging motorists to use navigation apps such as Google Maps or Waze for real-time routing throughout construction.
Additional Campus Construction
Visitors should also be aware that construction continues in the Thompson Arena/Alumni Stadium parking lot area as part of Western University's Utility & Tunnel Renewal Project. Some parking configurations and pedestrian routes may be adjusted throughout the summer. Additional parking remains available in South Valley and Huron parking lots.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as these important infrastructure improvements are completed. Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and follow all posted signage when travelling to campus.
What This Means for Sport Western Families & Caregivers
Families and caregivers dropping off or picking up campers at Sport Western programs should allow additional travel time and expect delays when coming to and leaving campus.
