Access Training On OWL (Sakai)

To access safety training courses on OWL, powered by Sakai you must first have a record set up on My Human Resources.

WHMIS, Health and Safety Orientation, Accessibility (AODA) and Safe Campus will be available under menu item “Joinable Sites” on OWL. These joinable sites are restricted to individuals who have a record on My Human Resources including all Staff, Faculty, Associated Persons, Graduate Students and select Undergraduate Students enrolled in specific courses or programs which require safety training.

Please refer to the following chart to find out when your HR record will be added to My Human Resources based on your relationship at Western. The chart also provides details on your User ID and Password needed to log on to OWL.

Employees, including students with an employment relationship with Western Your information will be established on or shortly after your start date. You will receive a letter* sent via the Western Directory Coordinator for your department/unit, containing your Western User ID and password.

Student volunteers who participate in programs coordinated through the Student Success Center, the Student Development Centre and Western Foot Patrol.

Your information will be established a few days after your volunteer contract or registration form has been submitted.
The User ID and password you use will depend on whether you have ever had an employment relationship with Western. See "A note to students" and diagram below.
Graduate students who do not have an employment relationship with Western. Your information will be established at the start of term provided that you are term activated on the student system. The User ID and password you use will depend on whether you have ever had an employment relationship with Western. See “A note to students” and diagram below.
Undergraduate student who require specific safety training due to course or program requirements such as Independent Study (4th year thesis courses) and clinical placements.
Visiting scholars, visiting researchers/scientists and volunteers who have an affiliation with Western but are not employees.  These individuals are administered as Associated Persons of Interest (POIs).

When you are officially registered as an Associated Person of Interest, ITS will automatically establish a UserID and password.

If you have NOT previously been set up on My Human Resources (as an employee, a Special ID or for special payments) use your same User ID and password assigned for the Student Center.

If you HAVE previously been set up on My Human Resources you will need to use your Western User ID assigned for My Human Resources.
