Strategic Planning

FHS Strategic Planning Timeline

What’s the goal?

The new strategic plan will shape the future of our faculty by identifying where we are now, where we aspire to be, and the path we will take to get there.

Strategic planning is about managing change and guiding the decisions we have to make today in order to shape tomorrow. It helps us think and plan for the future. Through the strategic planning process, we will define our values, mission, goals, priorities, and collective vision, helping to align our resources with strategic priorities while strengthening our areas of expertise. This process will result in a forward-looking, evidence-based strategic plan that is grounded in context, strategically aligned, developed in collaboration with students, faculty, staff, and external partners, and ready for implementation

Why now?

The previous FHS strategic plan that guided the faculty for over five years expires at the end of the year, with a new Dean and leadership team, it’s important to create a new and refreshed strategy.

Also, the environment facing the faculty, and all of higher education is complex.

Factors we need to consider include:

  • Higher education is transforming, with students demanding new approaches and technologies.
  • Expectations from faculty, staff, researchers, and partners require greater responsiveness.
  • As an institution we must address emerging research priorities, interprofessional education, community impact, and financial sustainability.
  • Health sciences faculties operate in high-impact environments, balancing education, research, partnerships, and service.
  • The strategic plan must be grounded in an evidence-based environmental scan, incorporating sector trends, policy context, demographic shifts, and regional dynamics.
