Recital: Scott Sutherland, tuba – “YouTube: Live on Stage”
The prolific Scott Sutherland, tuba, joins us for “YouTube: Live on Stage” to conclude his exciting three-day residency at the Don Wright Faculty of Music. Scott performs solo lines live synced up with his YouTube video projected, selections from Beetlejuice, The Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, Star Wars, Queen and more.
All are welcome to attend.

Artist bio: Hailed as “the second craziest tuba player I know” by famed American composer Joan Tower, Scott Sutherland is a member of the Redlands Symphony, Riverside Philharmonic and has been spotted in the back rows of the Chicago Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Diego Symphony and many more. Scott has performed at the front of the stage as a soloist with the San Diego and Idyllwild Arts Symphony Orchestras, as well as Riverside and Burbank Philharmonic. He has also recorded for film, television and video game soundtracks, including the major motion pictures Pearl Harbor, Batman vs. Superman, and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (which are the only accomplishments notable to his younger private students). For 11 years, Scott was a founding member, tubist and pianist of the international touring ensemble, Presidio Brass. During his time with the quintet, he performed in over 40 states, Canada and China.

In addition to private student lessons, Scott's residency at Western includes masterclasses and a recital. This residency is made possible by the Moscovich Fund for Innovation in Music, established with a visionary gift from Jim and Barbara Moscovich.
The Don Wright Faculty of music is proud to welcome guest artists, host distinguished artists in residence, those visiting for residencies and public masterclasses, as well as those who perform each week during our signature "Fridays @ 12:30" concert series.
