Creating text-encoded documents using XML-TEI
This introductory workshop offers a hands-on introduction to text encoding using the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) guidelines and XML.
Participants will learn how to structure and encode textual features such as headings, paragraphs, line breaks, names, and dates to create machine-readable scholarly editions.
This session is ideal for anyone working with literary, historical, or archival texts who wants to explore digital methods for representation, analysis, and long-term preservation. Space is limited to 25 people.
Learning Outcomes:
- Identify the basic principles and structure of XML and the purpose of TEI in digital humanities projects.
- Apply core TEI tags to represent common textual features in a sample document.
- Validate a TEI-encoded document using an XML editor to ensure well-formedness and compliance with TEI standards.
