Lost Something?
Find out where to report a lost item, where to turn in found property, and how lost property is handled at Western.
I Lost an Item

- September 1 to April 30: Contact Western Foot Patrol
- May 1 to August 31: Contact Western Special Constable Service
I Found an Item

- May 1 to August 31: Bring found property to Western Special Constable Service
Do not keep identification, bank cards, keys, medication, or other sensitive items longer than necessary.
What Information to Provide
When reporting a lost item, provide as much detail as possible, including:
- A clear description of the item
- The location where it may have been lost
- The date and approximate time it was last seen
- Any serial numbers, identifying marks, numbers, contents, or unique features
- Your name and contact information
- Any proof that may help confirm ownership
Do not include sensitive personal information unless it is necessary to identify the item.
Claiming Lost Property
To claim an item, you may be asked to:
- Describe the item and any identifying features
- Provide information about where and when it was lost
- Show valid photo identification
- Provide proof of ownership when appropriate
Property will only be released when ownership can be reasonably confirmed.
Identification, Bank Cards, Keys, and Other Sensitive Items
Some items require special handling because they contain personal information, provide access, or may create a safety or security concern.
- Western ONECards: Turn them in promptly so they can be protected and returned through the appropriate Western process
- Government identification: Turn it in promptly and do not copy or share the information
- Bank and credit cards: Turn them in promptly and do not attempt to use or test them
- Keys and access devices: Turn them in immediately because they may provide access to residences, offices, vehicles, or restricted areas
- Medication or medical items: Do not use, open, or dispose of them yourself
Contact Foot Patrol or WSCS if you are unsure how an item should be handled.
How Long Property Is Kept
Found property is normally held for three months.
- Items that can be linked to an owner will be returned when ownership is confirmed
- Valuable unclaimed property may be included in Foot Patrol’s annual property sale
- Items with little or no value may be discarded after the holding period
- Bank cards and certain sensitive items may be securely destroyed rather than stored
Annual property-sale details are published by Foot Patrol and may change from year to year.
