A Message from the President:

president"Women’s Caucus," as it is habitually called, is an unusual – perhaps unique – group on campus, in that its membership is open to all women at UWO. It aims to work collectively to serve as an agent of change where change is warranted, to support the aspirations of the diverse population of women in the Western community. Where issues such as discrimination and violence arise the Women's Caucus works on the assumption that it is important to connect with all members of the UWO community who are victims of this as well, and to work together to make this a safe and respectful environment.

At our last general meeting in the spring of 2011 the suggestion came forward that we consider the project of establishing a centre on campus to respond to acts of sexual violence. Following up on this, we plan to have a round table discussion on this topic at our fall general meeting. This will likely be held in the 3rd week of October, in the late afternoon and with refreshments. Watch for details on the website, which should appear in the near future. Plan to come out, bring friends and any particular project ideas that you think would be appropriate tasks for the Women's Caucus.

All the best for a good launch of the next academic season.

Bonnie MacLachlan
Department of Classical Studies,
President, Women's Caucus 2011-2012
