A Participatory Project involving 400 Objects, a Stack of Cards and the Community
Closing reception: Thursday November 10th, 2005 > 5pm-8pm

You have just received an art card that invites you to participate in a unique interactive project called Diction-Area. The object of this game-like project is for you, the participant, to respond to the word printed on the front of this card by interpreting its meaning in a three-dimensional manner. Your task is to find or make an object that best represents the word on the front of this card. The object can be a literal, metaphorical, or esoteric interpretation. For instance, if your word was “Freudian” your object response might be a set of “Freud” drill bits, a copy of Freud’s Civilization and its Discontents, or an example of a Freudian slip. The end result will be an expression of language in a three-dimensional format organized through a collaborative process that will involve up to 300 students, faculty and staff from UWO.

DIRECTIONS: Please bring your object/ interpretation of the word and this art card to the ArtLab Gallery located at the John Labatt Visual Arts Center, UWO, Perth Drive. Dates for object delivery are November 7, 8, and 9 between 12:00 and 6:00 PM. A gallery assistant will direct you in the placement of your object.
