Course Overload

Special permission for course overloads may be granted by the academic advisors in the School of Kinesiology. These requests are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Fall/Winter

The normal full-time course load is 5.0 courses, balanced over the two terms so that a student is attending no more than 5.0 full or half courses at one time. The academic advisor may grant special permission to overload (5.5 or 6.0 courses) to upper-year students with a strong academic record, a minimum average of 75% on a 5.0 course load in the previous year with no grade less than 60%. Students not eligible for course overload in the first term of an academic year may qualify in the second term if appropriate academic progress has been made.

Summer

Students may take a maximum of 2.5 courses in the summer if:

  • No more than 2.0 courses run concurrently
  • If 2.0 courses run concurrently, only 1.0 of them may be a lab course

As summer courses are already condensed, summer overload should only be considered in unique circumstances. Special permission may be granted for summer overloads for students with an outstanding academic record. Contact an academic advisor for more information.
