> DRAWING AS A COMPONENT OF “ART AND COLD CASH”

The southern Canadian members of the Art and Cold Cash Collective - Patrick Mahon, Jack Butler and Sheila Butler - are artists for whom the process of drawing has always been central to their creative work. Drawing as a visual arts practice also has a lively history for artists in Baker Lake, Nunavut, beginning in approximately 1965. William Noah, an artist resident in Baker Lake and a northern member of the Collective, shares a similar reliance on this versatile medium. All four artist members of the Collective are thus turning to drawing as a means for conceptualizing the themes and concepts driving the “Art and Cold Cash” project, as well as an aesthetic means for transforming these emotional and psychic realities into material being. In addition to the four artists of the Collective, a number of other Baker Lake artists are currently producing drawings by invitation for this exhibition project.
