Must Do Activities and Spots to Visit in London During Reading Week

Whether you're looking for an escape from your busy schedules or taking a break from worrying about midterms, here are some must-visit spots and activities that you can consider diving into during Reading Week! Plus, I’ve included a few exciting events happening later in October! 

1.Enjoy Live Music & Seasonal Markets at Covent Garden Market

Located in the heart of downtown, Covent Garden Market is a cultural hub filled with local vendors, fresh produce, artisanal products and international cuisine. Whether you’re shopping for handmade crafts or looking for delicious farm-to-table delights, this local gem offers a true taste of London’s community spirit. The market also hosts exciting seasonal events such as theFall Food Fest(Oct 26) and theHalloween Boo-Bash(Oct 27). For those looking to decompress, there’s Yoga & Journalling classes offered every Wednesday at 6 p.m.  

2.  Go Apple and Pumpkin Picking at Apple Land Station

Apple Land Station is a family-friendly destination near London, Ontario, offering apple and pumpkin picking throughout October. Enjoy a scenic day in the orchard, pick fresh apples and pumpkins, or take a ride on the train through the farm, it's a perfect autumn activity for all ages. 3. Enjoy Nature Walks and Picnics at Springbank Park

One of London’s largest and most beloved parks, Springbank Park is the ultimate destination for nature lovers. Full of greenery, walking trails along the Thames River, and scenic views, it’s a peaceful escape just a short distance from the city centre. Throughout October, experience fall and wildlife through seasonal walks, picnics and birdwatching! 

4.Attend Workshops in Museum London

Art and history enthusiasts are sure to enjoy visiting Museum London. The museum showcases both local and national art exhibitions alongside historical exhibits highlighting London’s rich heritage. Whether you're into contemporary art or Victorian-era artifacts, there's always something new to explore. Their hours are Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Entry to Museum London is free! 

5.Experience History at Fanshawe Pioneer Village

Take a trip back in time to the 19th century at Fanshawe Pioneer Village, an open-air museum where you can experience pioneer life firsthand. With heritage buildings, costumed interpreters, and hands-on activities, the village is both educational and fun for all ages. Learn about fall harvest at the Thanksgiving Day event (Oct 14) or check out the spooky haunted house experience during The Abandoned Village (Oct 18 – Nov 1). 

 6. Fly High at the Factory at 100 Kellogg Lane

For thrill-seekers, The Factory is a must-visit indoor adventure park located inside the former Kellogg’s factory. This multi-level park offers activities like ziplines, trampolines, ropes courses and a ninja warrior course. It’s the perfect spot for families or groups looking for some indoor fun.  

7.Try Ziplining at Boler Mountain

If you're a fan of outdoor adventure, Boler Mountain offers year-round activities. It’s a great spot for mountain biking, hiking and especially zip-lining. Through October, BolerMountain offers thrilling zipline tours and adventure activities among the vibrant fall colors.   

8.Go Hiking along Thames River Trails

For a more serene escape, the Thames River Trails offer beautiful walking and biking opportunities. The trails run through some of London’s most scenic landscapes, making it perfect for outdoor enthusiasts who want to immerse themselves in nature without leaving the city. Organize your own fall-themed hikes along the Thames River, exploring the changing landscape.

Many Western Mustangs Sports teams have home games over the break including the Western Mustangs football team who take on the Windsor Lancers on Saturday, October 19 at 1 p.m. at Western Alumni Stadium.
