PhD Public Lecture - Courtney van Waas: 'Grand Experiments'

Courtney van Waas gave her doctoral public lecture, and defended her dissertation in SSIRG's area of sport-historical research. Working with  Professor Emeritus Robert K. Barney, her research investigated the political significance of sports programs in Canadian prisoner of war camps during the second World War. Her thesis, "The Grand Experiment: Jerome Dwight Davis and the Young Men’s Christian Association’s War Prisoner Aid Sports Programing for German POWs in Canadian Camps During World War Two," focusses on the work of YMCA representative Jerome Davis, in particular.
