SSIRG Goes 'Limitless' at Special Olympics Gala

Members of SSIRG and the School of Kinesiology, and the wider Western community joined forces at the Limitless Gala hosted by the Special Olympics Movement in support of special olympics athletes. In attendance at the Toronto event were Laura Misener, David Howe, and Michael Heine, representing the School of Kinesiology and the Faculty of Health Sciences. They were joined by former Provost Janice Deacon, Laura Maniago (Faculty of Health Sciences),  Veronica Stoiber (Alumni Relations), Kelly Cole (VP External), Dana James (Associate VP, Principal Gifts), and Paul Mitchell, spouse of Dana James.

The Limitless Gala has been Special Olympics Canada's flagship event for over thirty years. The Gala was created as a way to raise awareness and funds for the organization, while celebrating Special Olympics athletes and their achievements.

The 2018 Gala marked and celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Special Olympic Movements, and the achievements of its founder, "Dr. Frank" -- Frank Hayden who was in attendance.

A close relationship between Western, the Faculty of Health Sciences, and the Special Olympics Movement has been formed through the recent establishment of an Endowed Chair dedicated to Sport and Social Impact Research, jointly supported by a major contribution from the Special Olympics Movement and Western University.
