Irena Creed to head School of Environment & Sustainability at the University of Saskatchewan

Prof. Irena Creed has been appointed as the new Executive Director of the School of Environment & Sustainability at the University of Saskatchewan.

Irena has been a member of the Western community for nearly two decades, currently a Full Professor in the Department of Biology with cross appointments to Geography and Earth Sciences. She has been a significant contributor to the Department, the Faculty of Science, and the University. She was a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair for the past 10 years, a period during which she led or co-led many initiatives, including a NSERC Strategic Network Grant, a NSERC CREATE Grant and a successful series of NSERC Discovery Grants, together with many provincial and federal government grants. Irena is an ecosystem ecologist who approached the field by bringing together a broad range of disciplines and techniques; her research excellence was recognized with a Faculty of Science Distinguished Research Professorship. Irena has contributed substantially to teaching. You can find her stamp on many significant features at Western, including the Centre for Environment and Sustainability, the Masters of Environment & Sustainability graduate program, and the Global Health Systems professional and collaborative programs (to name a few). Irena has also been recognized for her extraordinary service both to Western and internationally with a Humanitarian Award and a Green Award. Throughout her time at Western, Irena has brought creativity and innovation to her profession, forging collaborations across campus, nationally and internationally.
