Program: MMASc in Global Health Systems in Africa Candidate

Nadia Yehia completed her Honors Bachelor of Science Degree in Life Sciences at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario in 2018. During her undergraduate degree, Nadia had the opportunity to work alongside a UN Special Rapporteur as they researched factors causing and contributing to the current waste management problems in Sierra Leone in order to advocate for the population. This experience proved to be highly transformative for Nadia and exposed her to a set of interdisciplinary studies that she wanted to pursue further in her graduate degree. Nadia also has experience working with Canadian Public Health agencies by providing aid to mothers who suffered from postpartum depression. This has illuminated her understanding of the complex nature of maternal health. Currently, Nadia is a Master of Management of Applied Sciences (MMASc) Candidate, specializing in Global Health Systems in Africa at Western University in London, Ontario. She was interested in this program because it will provide her a better understanding of global regulatory strategies that address transnational health threats, social inequalities and human rights challenges. During her practicum in Uganda, she hopes to examine the human rights implications of hazardous substances and waste in relation to health and well-being. Nadia is looking forward to applying the knowledge gained through her undergraduate and graduate education during her time in Uganda.
