Program: MMASc in Global Healh Systems in Africa Candidate

Undergrad: Honour’s Specialization in Interdisciplinary Medical Sciences (BMSc) at Western University

Five years ago, I had the opportunity to travel to rural Underberg, South Africa, where I hiked the Giant’s Cup Trail and tutored English to students at Reichenau Mission. This was the first time I was exposed to poverty as the kids only had hand-me-down clothes. I experienced an enormous amount of pride in tutoring and interacting with the children and told myself that I would go back one day to continue making an impact. 3 years later, I travelled back to Reichenau Mission and re-connected with the same students, while also making new connections with new students. I was shown how an international experience can develop a sense of global citizenship and leadership.

By bridging the gap between science and the essential skills of leadership and communication, I believe the MMASc Global Health Systems in Africa program will prepare me for a professional career in global health. I am excited to go to Uganda and make a different in the community.
