Courtney delights at the puzzled responses she receives when explaining my passion for what must seem like conflicting undergraduate subjects: accounting, religion, and community development. But it is this multidisciplinary approach that fuels her enthusiasm for working in Kenya this summer at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi. Although Courtney has had a variety of leadership positions in the not-for-profit sector, this is her first time working in Kenya. Courtney is thrilled to see what she can learn from an organization that’s exemplary in this field, while striving to be a vegetarian in a country where the go-to staple meal is “nyama choma” (i.e. barbequed meat).
