Generalist
Generalist is a specialty designed for students seeking a broad and versatile foundation in data analytics, rather than focusing on a single domain. Deepen your expertise beyond the core curriculum by exploring advanced topics such as artificial intelligence, financial risk management and database systems. This flexible approach equips graduates with a diverse skill set applicable across multiple industries.
Courses
Students will augment the core courses with their choice of three of the following courses*:

- Introduction to Financial Markets and Quantitative Finance with Excel - FM9522
- Monte Carlo Methods and Financial Applications - FM9593
- Reinforcement Learning - CS9670
- Stochastic Processes - FM9590
- Survival Analysis - AS9004A
- The Mathematics of Financial Options - FM9578
- Time Series - SS9861
Students may also take any other graduate level course with a significant data analytics focus from either the Department of Statistical & Actuarial Sciences or the Department of Computer Science, with approval from the Director of the MDA program.
*A minimum of one course must be from another speciality field (Artificial Intelligence or Finance, Banking and Insurance); however, no more than one course from any individual specialty.
The program will endeavour to offer a wide variety of specialty field courses; however, not all specialty field courses may be offered in a given year.

The Generalist speciality does not have any additional admission requirements beyond the program admission requirements.
