Western has a lively research group centered on computation in mathematics, an area which involves both the use and the development of cutting edge mathematical software. Computational mathematics stands as a cornerstone within several disciplines of mathematics as well as applications.

Our research group overlaps significantly with the interdisciplinary Ontario Research Centre for Computer Algebra (ORCCA).

Areas of computational mathematics that members in our research group focus on include:
-Computational Algebraic Geometry
-Topological Data Analysis
-Computer Formalization of Mathematics
-Design and Implementation of Symbolic-Numeric Algorithms
-Symbolic Computation in Homological Algebra
-High Performance Computing
-Linear and Nonlinear Polynomial System Solving
-Nonlinear Differential Equations
-Financial Mathematics
-Polyhedral Geometry and Combinatorics
