Graduate and Professional Programs

Many Kinesiology graduates at Western choose to further their education by pursuing research-based graduate degrees or by entering a professional program that develops skills related to a specific career path (ie. chiropractor, teacher, lawyer). There are a variety of resources provided the by the Student Success Centre that provide answers to many of the most common questions students have when considering postgraduate education.

Research or Course-Based Graduate Programs

Students who pursue a Master of Arts (MA), Master of Science (MSc), or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), build on the knowledge obtained during an undergraduate program and sometimes migrate to careers in research or academia, but the skills acquired in these type of programs are also in demand in industry and the public sector. Some programs of this nature require students to complete an entrance exam such as the GRE. More information about tests and requirements can be obtained from the Student Success Centre.

Professional Graduate Programs

Professional programs typically require an undergraduate degree and help students develop the skills and knowledge necessary for careers in a specific area (i.e. Nursing, Athletic Therapy). At Western, some professional programs are considered second-entry undergraduate degrees and administered by individual faculties. Professional programs offered at the master's level at Western are coordinated by the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
