Alternatives to the use of Animal Models in Research

ACVS is strives to help researchers find alternatives to the use of animal models in research, and encourages the use of computational models, in-vitro studies and other non-invasive models to move their research forward. When replacement is not a viable option for the work involved, ACVS seeks to help researchers reduce their animal numbers, as well as refine their procedures and animal husbandry to limit pain and distress in the animals.

This 3-part strategy is referred to as the 3Rs of Animal Research, a global movement in the scientific community that acts as a guide to the ethical treatment of experimental animals.
