2025 Cajio Workshop

Playa Cajio, Cuba Workshop

Playa Cajío, a small coastal town in Cuba, faces a variety of disaster risks, including hurricanes, flooding, and coastal erosion, which threaten the livelihoods of local residents, particularly those dependent on fishing and agriculture. This workshop will bring together local community groups, municipal leaders, and disaster risk management professionals to co-create disaster resilience strategies that are rooted in community knowledge and emphasize sustainable development.

In Playa Cajío, the workshop will focus on:

  • Understanding and mapping the specific risks facing the community, including climate change impacts
  • Designing practical tools for disaster preparedness and recovery that protect both natural resources and living standards
  • Building community cohesion through participatory planning and risk communication strategies

This event will help ensure that Playa Cajío’s residents have a strong voice in developing disaster preparedness and recovery plans that reflect the unique needs of their coastal environment.
