Professional Development

Industry Engagement

From career-related courses and professional development seminars to industry sponsored case challenges and networking events, you will benefit from the MMASc integrated suite of career- focused programming.

During the academic terms, we weave in case challenges where you will work collaboratively on assignments with our industry partners such as major pharmaceutical companies, world-wide marketing communication agencies and community health networks including London Health Sciences Centre. This past year the winning teams for December Ogilvy Health Case Challenge were treated to a day at the impressive WPP campus in downtown Toronto.

We also plan for industry integration during the academic year, such as consulting projects with local industry partners, project management assignments in the community, integrating operations management learning with potential plant tours (i.e., Labatt’s Brewery), industry guest speakers, and other events.

Career Management Seminar Series

As a part of your classroom experience, you will attend a variety of career management seminars over the course of the year. A cross section of topics include:

  • Professional Career Management
  • Personal Value Proposition and Self-Marketing Strategies
  • Creating Professional Application Materials
  • Networking: In-Person and Virtually
  • The Art of Interviewing
  • Professionalism in the Workplace
  • Workplace Health and Safety

Job Search Support

With guidance from dedicated program personnel (a career services officer), students are responsible for leading their own job research and pursuing/securing work term opportunities that align with their interests and desired career paths; negotiating professional and learning outcomes with employers; and navigating their learning in a real-world corporate context.

Our career services officer works with multiple industry partners to secure limited MMASc exclusive co-op opportunities. Additionally, the MMASc program provides students access to a job portal where both MMASc exclusive co-op positions and general co-op positions are posted.

Ultimately, the student is responsible for conducting their job search.  Please note, job descriptions for experiential learning opportunities vary from year to year, as do the organizations that have work terms available.
