Sustainable resource extraction and production

Periodic table with carbon structure overlay

This group uses state-of-the-art materials analysis technologies, in combination with resource exploration capabilities, to more effectively extract mineral resources for the world’s growing population.

As the world’s population and demand for mineral resources is growing, the number of new resource discoveries is diminishing, and resources are becoming more difficult to extract. This group studies nickel, copper, gold, REE, PGE, diamonds and technological metals, utilizing a wide array of state-of-the-art technologies for materials analysis, in combination with mineral resource exploration. Analytical tools, theoretical geological models (spatial, temporal, numerical), and laboratory experiments are used. These scientists are also modifying existing techniques and developing new technologies to improve resource exploration capabilities. By combining our strengths we will develop the next generation of researchers and techniques to discover and extract new natural resources.
