Artist biography

Irma Bajramovic (Bosnian-Canadian), is an interdisciplinary artist currently pursuing a BFA at Western University. Her work often deals with ideas surrounding migration, nostalgia and diaspora. She draws inspiration from her Balkan heritage/background and experiences as a first-generation immigrant. The Net series of photographs documents the transformation of a sculptural form to a performance piece. She created a large-scale net with recycled cotton fabrics, plastic bags and tarpaulin, as a sculptural form with the intentions of a perceived unification, flexibility and manipulated movement. Due to unforeseen circumstances regarding Covid19, the piece was unable to be displayed in a gallery setting. The abrupt changes around the world alter the context of the piece. The concepts of flexibility and manipulation remain, but the object is transformed from permanent to temporal in its destruction.
