New paper improves understanding of tornado wind speeds in Canada
A new paper by Western University researchers describes a comprehensive study of tornado wind speeds conducted for Canada.The authors, led by Yongxu Liu and including CSSL director Gregory Kopp and NTP director David Sills, developed a new spatially varying tornado occurrence model for Canada and generated updated, comprehensive tornado hazard maps. Maps for estimated return period values of the annual maximum tornado wind speed based on two different footprint shapes are shown below.
