Four downbursts in NW ON on July 6

The NTP has confirmed four downbursts that occurred with storms on July 6 in the area of NW Ontario from the Manitoba border to Kenora. The damage for each was rated at EF0.

Event Name: Baubee Lake, ON

Date: July 6, 2026

Start Time: 1:00 PM CDT (1800 UTC)

Final Classification: Downburst

Preliminary EF-Scale Rating: EF0

EF-Scale Damage Indicator / Degree of Damage: C-T/DOD-4

Location of worst damage: 49.7459N, 95.1049W

Description: Tree damage was reported at West Hawk Lake, MB after a storm passed through the area. No injuries were reported. An NTP ground and drone survey was completed on July 8, 2026, documenting the reported damage near West Hawk Lake. Preliminary satellite imagery review revealed visible tree damage in the area and eastward into Ontario, with the worst damage observed near Baubee Lake. Damage assessed as EF0 downburst, with an estimated max. wind speed of 130 km/h, with intermittent damage found over an area approximately 8.0 km long and up to 2.4 km wide. Start time is radar estimated.

Date: July 6, 2026

Start Time: 1:50 PM CDT (1850 UTC)

EF-Scale Damage Indicator / Degree of Damage: C-T/DOD-3

Location of worst damage: 49.7695N, 94.7327W

Description: Tree damage was reported at Laclu after a storm passed through the area. No injuries were reported. An NTP ground and drone survey was completed on July 7, 2026, documenting the reported damage. Damage assessed as EF0 microburst, with an estimated max. wind speed of 115 km/h, with intermittent damage found over an area approximately 3.1 km long and up to 2.9 km wide. Start time is radar estimated. Satellite imagery review is pending. Downburst damage (EF0 microburst) was also documented east of Lake Lulu.

Location of worst damage: 49.7740N, 94.6627W

Description: Tree damage was reported at Laclu after a storm passed through the area. No injuries were reported. An NTP ground and drone survey was completed on July 7, 2026, documenting the reported damage. Damage assessed as EF0 microburst, with an estimated max. wind speed of 130  km/h, with intermittent damage found over an area approximately 1.6 km long and up to 1.7 km wide. Start time is radar estimated. Satellite imagery review is pending. Downburst damage (EF0 microburst) was also document west of Lake Lulu.


Event Name: Bergland, ON

Date: July 6, 2026

Start Time: 3:30 PM CDT (2030 UTC)

EF-Scale Damage Indicator / Degree of Damage: SBO/DOD-6

Location of worst damage: 48.9436N, 94.3693W

Description: Damage to a barn, trees and a ball diamond was reported in the Bergland area after a storm passed. No injuries were reported. An NTP ground and drone survey was completed on July 8, 2026, documenting the reported damage. Preliminary satellite imagery review revealed some visible tree damage in the area. Damage assessed as EF0 downburst, with an estimated max. wind speed of 130 km/h, with intermittent damage found over an area approximately 11.1 km long and up to 4.6 km wide. Start time is radar estimated.
