Two more tornadoes in Ontario for 2023
Each fall, NTP conducts a thorough hi-res satellite review of all treed areas to see if there are any areas of tornado or downburst damage that we missed during the season (usually because there were no public reports from the area). The review has turned up a number of event in past years across the country. And this year is no exception.
This review has now been completed for Ontario, and we were able to find one additional tornado that occurred during the 2023 season in Northern Ontario - at Pineview Lake (Temagami) on July 6, rated EF1.
There is one other new tornado that NTP documented at McParlon Lake after further investigation of wind damage there from storms on July 27. That is also located in Northern Ontario and rated EF1.
This brings the total number of tornadoes for Ontario in 2023 to 39.

Description: Satellite imagery review revealed a tornado damage path in forested areas near Pineview Lake (west of Temagami). Tornado damage assessed as EF1, with an estimated max. wind speed of 145 km/h, track length of 2.95 km and max. path width of 400 m. Tornado motion was from the W (approx. 275 degrees). Start time is radar estimated.

End of damage track: 50.2740N, 80.9271W
Location of worst damage: 50.2809N, 80.9410W
Description: Satellite imagery review of a storm track of interest revealed a limited track of visible damage in a partially treed area northwest of McParlon Lake. Radar products from CASRF (Smooth Rock Falls) showed a tornado debris signature in the vicinity of the damage. Damage assessed as EF1 tornado, with an estimated max. wind speed of 145 km/h, track length of 1.96 km and max. path width of 490 m. Tornado motion was from the NW (approx. 310 degrees). Start time is radar estimated.
