Two EF0 tornadoes at Windsor

NTP investigations have led to the confirmation of two EF0 tornadoes in Windsor, ON from June 25th. An EF0 microburst was also confirmed from the same day in Essex, ON. An NTP survey team was able to find a narrow path of damage for each of the tornadoes. Details are provided in the summaries below. Maps and some photos are also provided. Event Name: Windsor (South Cameron), ON

Date: June 25, 2023

Start Time: 6:45 PM EDT (2245 UTC)

Final Classification: Tornado (over land)

Final EF-Scale Rating: EF0

EF-Scale Damage Indicator / Degree of Damage: C-T/DOD-2

Start of damage track: 42.2903N, 83.0542W

End of damage track: 42.3017N, 83.0351W

Location of Worst Damage: 42.2944N, 83.0451W  

Description: Witness captured video of a rotating dust cloud and lofted debris in western Windsor as a storm approached, with tree damage later reported in the immediate vicinity of the visible vortex. No injuries were reported. An NTP ground and drone survey was completed on June 26, 2023 documenting a narrow path of weak tree damage. Damage assessed as EF0 tornado, with an estimated max. wind speed of 90 km/h, track length of 2.02 km and max. path width of 180 m. Tornado motion was from the SW (approx. 230 degrees). Satellite imagery review is pending.

Start of damage track: 42.3057N, 82.9091W

End of damage track: 42.3135N, 82.8545W

Location of Worst Damage: 42.3059N, 82.9088W

Description: Tree and structural damage was reported in Forest Glade neighbourhood of Windsor and further east into Tecumseh after a storm passed through the area. No injuries were reported. An NTP ground and drone survey was completed on June 26, 2023 documenting minor roof damage to several properties and tree damage along a long, narrow path. Damage assessed as EF0 tornado, with an estimated max. wind speed of 125 km/h, track length of 4.69 km and max. path width of 120 m. Tornado motion was from the W (approx. 260 degrees). Satellite imagery review is pending. Start time is radar estimated.

Final Classification: Downburst (microburst)

Final EF-Scale Rating: EF0

EF-Scale Damage Indicator / Degree of Damage: FR12/DOD-2

Location of Worst Damage: 42.1668N, 82.8311W

Description: Tree and minor roof damage was reported in Essex after a storm passed through the area. No injuries were reported. An NTP ground and drone survey was completed on June 26, 2023, documenting damage in a limited area of southwestern Essex. Damage assessed as EF0 microburst, with an estimated max. wind speed of 125 km/h. Satellite imagery review is pending. Start time is radar estimated.
