Add another three tornadoes in Manitoba

NTP investigations, in collaboration with Environment Canada, have confirmed that three weak tornadoes occurred in Manitoba. The first developed on the afternoon of June 27th at Keyes (east of Neepawa). The other two developed during the afternoon of June 28th, with the first occurring near Venlaw (west of Dauphin) and the second occurring near Brookdale (northeast of Brandon). None of the tornadoes did damage to an EF scale damage indicator and are therefore rated EF0-Default. However, an NTP damage survey team did find a damage path through crops for both the Venlaw and Brookdale tornadoes. Details are provided below.

Estimated tornado location: 50.26N, 99.20W

Description: Witnesses captured video and photos of a tornado east of Neepawa near Keyes. No injuries were reported. An NTP ground and drone survey on June 30, 2023, found no damage in the vicinity of the witness reports. As no damage was discovered, the EF-Scale assessment is EF0-Default. Information available insufficient to accurately estimate track length, max. path width and tornado motion. Satellite imagery review is pending.

Start Time: 12:53 PM CDT (1753 UTC)

Final Classification: Tornado (over land)

Final EF-Scale Rating: EF0-Default

Start of damage track: 51.2682N, 100.5483W  

End of damage track: 51.2773N, 100.5421W 

Description: Witnesses captured video and photos of a tornado south of Venlaw. No injuries were reported. An NTP ground and drone survey was completed on June 29, 2023, documenting a narrow path of visible crop damage. As no damage indicators were impacted, the EF-Scale assessment is EF0-Default tornado, with a track length of 1.29 km and max. path width of 10 m. Tornado motion was from the SSW (approx. 205 degrees). Satellite imagery review is pending.

Date: June 28, 2023

Start Time: 1:20 PM CDT (1820 UTC)

Final Classification: Tornado (over land)

Final EF-Scale Rating: EF0-Default

Start of damage track: 50.0051N, 99.5363W

End of damage track: 49.9972N, 99.5343W

Description: Witnesses captured video and photos of a tornado south of Brookdale and some crop damage was reported. No injuries were reported. An NTP ground and drone survey was completed on June 30, 2023, documenting a narrow path of visible crop damage. As no damage indicators were impacted, the EF-Scale assessment is EF0-Default tornado, with a track length of 0.8 km and max. path width of 10 m. Tornado motion was from the N (approx. 350 degrees). Satellite imagery review is pending.
