Presenters - Call for Abstracts

Presenters are asked to submit an abstract for review by Friday, March 9, 2012. All topics on environment and sustainability are invited, including:

NEW! History of Sustainability Workshop
with invited speaker Dr. Michael Egan
Thursday April 12th, 2:00-3:30pm

Dr. Michael Egan, acclaimed professor of history at McMaster University, will lead a group of graduate students in a discussion about the past, present, and future meanings of the concept of sustainability.
Following abstract acceptance, registered presenters will be given the opportunity to sign-up for the workshop. Limited space is available, so enrollment in the workshop will be on a first come first serve basis. Details for how to sign-up will be provided in the acceptance email

This year you have the option of presenting in three formats:

Due to limited time and space for oral presentations this year, we will be evaluating abstracts and selecting presenters to speak based on overall project merit and relevancy. We encourage you to carefully think about the presentation format (oral, speed or poster presentation) that best meets your current goals. Please see the ‘Presentation Guidelines’ section for further details regarding each presentation format.

Criteria for Abstract Selection
To increase the probability that your abstract will be accepted, and in your preferred format, please consider the following criteria carefully:

  1. Application to environment & sustainability
  2. Clarity of presentation (e.g. abstract begins with a clear statement of an issue and ends with a substantive conclusion)
  3. Content appropriate for an interdisciplinary audience

The Earth Day Colloquium Organizing Committee expects to make decisions on the abstract selections by March 23rd 2012. Notifications will be sent by email to submitting authors.

Best Presentation
Students may sign up to be considered in the best presentation competition for each presentation format.
