Fermented Food for Life is an initiative that works to use the science of microbes to improve human life. Their research focuses on three pillars which includes female health, affordable probiotics and the influence of microbes on life. Fermented Food for Life is headed by Dr. Gregor Reid. Gregor Reid has been internationally recognized for his work in probiotics as he has chaired the United Nations- World Health Organization Expert Panel and Working Group of Probiotics in 2001-2002. Fermented for Life brings the benefits of probiotics to local communities through the power of partnerships. In a joint project funded by the Canadian International Food Security Research Fund through IDRC and Global Affairs Canada, the community kitchen project has expanded to reach over 120,000 people daily in Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya. There are many benefits to bringing probiotic microbes to people around the world such as reducing urinary and vaginal infections in women, promoting probiotics to save premature,  low birth weight babies and to reduce human exposure to environmental pollutants such as mercury, arsenic, and pesticides.
