Masters in Hispanic Studies

The Hispanic Studies M.A. is a two-year program. Along with deciding whether to concentrate on Literature and Culture or Hispanic Linguistics, there are two options for completing the degree: Coursework or Thesis.

The majority of our students are currently accepted for the course-based M.A. degree. With the approval of the Graduate Committee and with the appropriate supervisor, students may have the option of writing a thesis.

If a student is particularly well prepared or shows potential in their area of study after his or her first year in the program, the Graduate Committee may choose to invite him or her to transfer directly into the Ph.D. Program (five-year Ph.D.).

Applicants whose first language is not English and who have not obtained a degree at an English-language institution must furnish evidence of their proficiency in the use of the English language.  For more information on accepted English Language Proficiency click here.
