The Department of Modern Languages at the University of Western Ontario offers three levels of Arabic Language to satisfy the needs of different levels of learners. These are:

The three are full year courses and the emphasis in all three levels is Modern Standard Arabic, i.e. the Arabic used in reading, writing, the media, intellectual and cultural life all over the Arab World. The courses develop the four basic skills of reading, writing, comprehension, and oral communication at the respective levels. The courses use a series of textbooks that build upon each other as well as a number of computer based programmes available for students at the Language Lab of the Department that cover materials ranging from basic writing and pronunciation to working with advanced texts.
