Program Director, Clara Fitzgerald and Project Coordinator, Jamie Corkal
Over the past two months, Clara and Jamie have had the experience of working with some outstanding Personal Trainers from Equinox Fitness in California, New York. The partnership between the CCAA and Equinox Fitness was created to provide training and instruction in the area of activity and aging to Personal Trainers of Equinox Fitness.
These workshops allowed both the Personal Trainers and CCAA representatives to explore a variety of themes in the field of physical activity and aging and to share the CCAA’s knowledge in this area. Topics covered in the Equinox Fitness workshops included common myths and misconceptions of aging and exercise, physiological changes of aging, exercise prescription guidelines for healthy adults and older adults, exercising with a chronic condition and functional activity measures.
The Equinox Fitness clubs that Clara and Jamie visited were shining examples of what state of the art fitness clubs have to offer in 2010. From the warm welcome they received at reception to the equipment in the gym, everything was top-notch and provided a great overall experience. The trainers at all the locations were eager to learn and happy to share their experiences with the CCAA team. Everyone was excited to take part in the learning experience, which facilitated a discussion-based workshop that was engaging, educational and fun for all involved.
The CCAA would like to thank Geralyn Coopersmith for contacting our Outreach Team and offering this wonderful opportunity to travel and teach in the USA. Thanks as well to all of the trainers that Clara and Jamie had the pleasure of meeting and sharing knowledge with over the past three months.
Clara will soon be travelling to meet with trainers of the Equinox Fitness Club in Chicago. She is sure to encounter the same warm reception and another eager and friendly group of trainers like the team from the CCAA has come to expect at Equinox Fitness.
