The Sexuality and Gender Research Group will be holding the sixth annual Queer Research Day on Wednesday, April 20 from 9:30am to 5:30pm. We welcome both papers (15 - 20 minute oral presentations) and posters. We also welcome proposals for artists' performances, film screenings, musical events, and other forms of queer work taking place on campus or in the local community.
We will once again be holding QRD in Stevenson 3166, as well as locating the poster display in the space outside 3166. Lunch will be provided. Everyone is welcome!
Faculty and graduate students are welcome to participate or just to attend. If you are interested in presenting, please email a brief abstract with title or a brief description of your paper, poster or other proposal to Wendy Pearson (firstname.lastname@example.org). We hope to include presentations on a wide variety of topics from a broad range of disciplines. The deadline for receiving proposals is April 9, 2016.
Please feel free to pass this CFP on to students and colleagues who may be interested.
The Sexuality and Gender Research Group brings together researchers from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities with scholars in other disciplines from around the university to discuss questions of sexuality and gender from a variety of disciplinary, interdisciplinary, and cross-disciplinary perspectives.
Every year, the Sexuality and Gender Research Group, in conjunction with the Western Queer Caucus, hosts a number of academic talks. Our major effort every year, however, lies in organizing Queer Research Day, a full-day event involving both papers and poster presentations. Queer Research Day is normally held on the third Wednesday in April. The date is announced each year in November and a call for papers and posters is sent out in February. Other initiatives in the areas of sexuality and gender would be very welcome. If you are interested in organizing something, please do let us know.
Membership in the Sexuality and Gender Research Group is open to faculty and graduate students. However, all of our events are free and open to all members of the Western community. For more information, please contact Wendy Pearson or Susan Knabe.
Note for Undergraduate Students:
Undergraduate students are welcome to attend and participate in all events organized by the Sexuality and Gender Research Group. LGBT students seeking a social network at Western should contact Pride Western at email@example.com. Students interested in the study of sexuality should consider taking a course in Sexuality Studies. The Faculty of Arts and Humanities currently offers both a Sexuality Studies Major and Minor, which are administered by Women's Studies and Feminist Research. Further information on these modules can be found elsewhere on the WSFR website (see "Undergraduate").
