As a priority of the Bone and Joint Institute, the Catalyst Grant will provide seed funding for new transdisciplinary research initiatives to encourage collaboration among disciplines. Projects must be relevant to musculoskeletal health and have the potential to lead to new research initiatives with potential for high impact.

Applications may be made to one of two categories of grants: 1) lower cost, with maximum funding of up to $15,000; or 2) higher cost, with maximum funding of up to $30,000.

Application Details: Applicants can apply for only one grant each year. Grants are for seed funding and therefore are non-renewable. These awards provide money to initiate new projects and are not to sustain ongoing research. Each application must be submitted by two or more faculty, who are members of the Bone and Joint Institute. Preference will be given to teams that include new investigators (within 5 years of their first academic appointment).The application form is available within Western?s OWL resource. Please complete all sections. Incomplete applications will not be forwarded to the committee for review. Please follow the page and size restrictions for each section. Deadline for submission is September 15, 2015.
NOTE: All Letters of Intent and Full Applications must be processed through Research Development & Services for institutional approval. Requests for Institutional approvals should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline. A ROLA Proposal (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean electronic approvals) is required for each submission.
