Subject Areas: Neurodegenerative Diseases

Neurodegenerative diseases of aging are among the least understood and most undertreated diseases, and place a large and increasing burden on society. Addressing this challenge requires innovative approaches to accelerating treatments. Canada has a world-class neuroscience research community engaged in solving this problem. Catalyzing and supporting these researchers can help lead to meaningful, timely breakthroughs.

The goal of the Targeted Diseases program is to provide targeted support for high impact, translational research in frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). Proposed projects must be translational research and fall into one of these two categories to be eligible for funding: Preclinical to Phase II development of a therapeutic for FTD or PSP; Development of tools that help accelerate development of therapeutics for FTD or PSP

Application Details: There are two stages to the application process: Letters of Intent ("LOIs") and Proposals. Note that the LOI stage of the application process is a significant stage of evaluation. Typically, only a small proportion of applicants are invited to submit full Proposals, and of those, many will be funded. This ensures LOIs are easy to submit and that no high potential projects are missed, and that those taking the time to write full Proposals have a very good chance of being funded.Letters of Intent should be submitted through the Foundation's online grant management system at: For more details about this request for applications please see the sponsor website:
NOTE: All Letters of Intent and Full Applications must be processed through Research Development & Services for institutional approval. Requests for Institutional approvals should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline. A ROLA Proposal (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean electronic approvals) is required for each submission.
