The Innovation Strategy focuses on innovation and learning in population health interventions to reduce health inequalities in Canada. Priorities are selected on the basis of the significance of the issue for public health and the need for better evidence on effective interventions. The IS supports the development, adaptation, implementation, and evaluation of promising, innovative population health interventions and initiatives in various settings and populations in Canada. The IS also supports knowledge translation and dissemination based on the systematic collection of results and outcomes of these interventions and promotion of their use across Canada.

Under the Innovation Strategy Program and the Investment to Support Victims of Violence and Protect Children, the Public Health Agency of Canada is supporting projects that strengthen public health capacity to address family violence, including intimate partner violence and child maltreatment. Funded projects may provide evidence-based guidance, training, protocols and other resources and supports to equip health professionals, and health system organizations, to address family violence safely and effectively.
