Subject Areas: Genomics
Description:

Genome Canada is seeking proposals for large-scale research projects which focus on the application of genomics research such that there is a high potential for benefits for Canada (with an emphasis on economic benefits) to be realized or initiated before the end of the project. Proposals must be of a scale and scope that they cannot readily be funded at internationally competitive levels through other mechanisms. The Genome Centres are responsible for selecting which projects to put forward to Genome Canada. Once projects are approved Genome Centres have the lead in ensuring their effective management and monitoring.

Genome Canada, together with Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), has announced a Request for Applications (RFA) for the 2020 Large Scale Applied Research Project Competition ?Genomics Solutions for Natural Resources and the Environment?. The Competition aims to support applied research projects that use genomic approaches to address challenges and opportunities in Canada?s natural resources and environment sectors, including interactions between natural resources and the environment, thereby contributing to the Canadian bioeconomy, a healthy environment and the well-being of Canadians.

Application Details:

The objectives of the Large-Scale Applied Research Projects Program are to: Generate discovery of knowledge in genome-related areas, and Translate the knowledge into practical applications of benefit to Canadians. Genome Canada requires that at least 50% of the requested funding for eligible costs be obtained through co-funding from other sources. The application process is comprised of three steps: Registration, Pre-Application and Full Application. All applicants must identify and address key ethical, economic, environmental, legal and/or social aspects relevant to the genomics research (GE3LS) being proposed as part of the overall research plan.

Applicants are required to apply for funding through their regional Genome Centre. The application process is comprised of three steps: Registration, Pre-Application and Full Application.

INDIRECT COSTS ARE NOT SUPPORTED BY THIS PROGRAM.

NOTE: All Letters of Intent and Full Applications must be processed through Research Development & Services for institutional approval. Requests for Institutional approvals should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline. A ROLA Proposal (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean electronic approvals) is required for each submission.
