Description:

Research Tools and Instruments (RTI) grants foster and enhance the discovery, innovation and training capability of university researchers in the natural sciences and engineering by supporting the purchase of research equipment.

The RTI grants program provides the primary avenue for university researchers in the natural sciences and engineering to obtain up to $150,000 in support for research tools and instruments with a net cost between $7,001 and $250,000. Net cost is defined as the purchase cost of the equipment after any discount from the vendor and before taxes, customs and importation fees, transportation and shipping charges, and assembly and installation costs.

Application Details:

Researchers can submit one RTI application per competition, either as an applicant or a co-applicant, but not as both. This requirement does not apply to Subatomic Physics applicants as their grant applications are reviewed and supported through a different multi-program envelope. NEW THIS YEAR: Research Tools and Instruments (RTI) grants applicants and co-applicants who were successful in the previous year?s RTI competition are ineligible to apply for one year. Eligibility will be reinstated the following competition year.

To apply, applicants must submit an Application for Research Tools and Instruments by the deadline date: October 11, 2024 by 10am: Internal submission of: ROLA proposal for e-approvals, and draft application & CCVs completed in the Research Portal October 25, 2024 by 10am: Final application submission in the Research Portal (there is no Notice of Intent stage for the RTI program) https://www.uwo.ca/research/funding/external/nserc_rti.html

INDIRECT COSTS MUST NOT BE LEVIED ON THIS PROGRAM

NOTE: All research-related grant applications, letters of intent, contracts and agreements requiring an institutional or organizational signature must submit related documents to the Office of Research Services for review and approval. Requests for institutional signature should be received a minimum of five to ten business days before the posted Sponsor deadline. Please see Western Research's website regarding the institutional signatory process for more details. Specific opportunities may have their own timelines and requirements for submissions. A ROLA Proposal submitted by the PI and bearing department and faculty approvals is required.
