Information Security Awareness Training Module on OWL

Western University's Guidelines on Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Policy has been created to foster an environment that will protect Western Ontario University, its students, staff and faculty from information security threats that could compromise the privacy, productivity, reputation, or intellectual property rights. (see MAPP 1.23)

Western’s digital infrastructure contains important and sometimes very sensitive information relating to our Academic and Research activities. Taking appropriate precautions to ensure the security of your information assets is a shared responsibility that involves everyone in our campus community.

This Information Security Awareness module is designed to highlight Information Security best practices on a variety of subjects ranging from using strong passwords to recognizing phishing attacks. This information will help you to do your part in assisting Western to ensure that our digital infrastructure and assets are managed safely and securely.

The Information Security Awareness module takes approximately 60 minutes to complete but can be done over multiple sessions.  That is, if you leave the module midway, you can return to continue later.

A certificate of completion will be available from the Certification link in the left hand navigation and can be printed for your personal records.

The Information Security Awareness training module can be accessed using the link provided below.  It will connect you to Western’s learning management system (known as OWL).  Users will have to login to the system using their Western credentials.
