Destination Theatre - Theatre Studies 3900G

Exchange • Summer Program

In 2021, Destination Theatre is scheduled to travel to London, UK, for a two-week residency based at Queen Mary, University of London, in the heart of the capital, with a long weekend break in Stratford-upon-Avon.

In the event that a COVID-19 resurgence prevents our travel, students will have the opportunity to complete their course credit online, using a range of (pretty terrific) tools that will bring the best of British theatre and performance, as well as guest artists and teachers, to us via Zoom. In the event travel is prevented, all supplementary student fees will be refunded. In the event that the abroad portion of the class is canceled either before the beginning of winter term 2021, or after the beginning of Winter term 2021 but before the add/drop date has passed, students will have the opportunity to drop the course without penalty and choose an alternative credit.

This half-course equivalent offers undergraduates the opportunity to learn about contemporary theatre and performance in a major international city. The location of Destination Theatre, depending on the year, will be in London, England (with a short excursion to Stratford-upon-Avon) or New York, USA. Students meet for two hours every other week during the Winter term from January to April. Starting in mid-June, students travel to their destination city to spend two weeks seeing live performances, participating in discussions and hands-on workshops with professional theatre makers, engaging in Q&As with actors and artists, and exploring the city.
