Workshop on Global and Intercultural Competency

Intercultural Competency Workshop

This Workshop consists of two (3-hour) modules offered roughly a month apart in the fall and winter semester and may require some at-home reading and writing of reflection exercises. Please note: a minimum of 10 students must sign up for workshops to run.

You must register for the workshops in Atlas. You will need to create a profile if you don't already have one. Select the module that best fits your schedule under the Events tab. You are only required to attend one session for each module. If you have registered for a workshop and are no longer able to attend, please cancel your registration so another student can register. 

*All workshop modules will take place in the Chu International Centre, IGAB

Module I: Cultural Self-Awareness and Encountering Difference

Dates and Times for Fall Term 2018 Module I:

Thursday, September 20 at 9:30 am to 12:30 pm

Wednesday, October 3 at 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm

Pre-module assignment:  "My Culture" Reflection

Because cultural self-awareness is the foundation of intercultural understanding, students are required to write a 1-page (min 500 word) reflection.  Students can use the following questions to guide them:

Module II:  Communicating Across Cultures

With an understanding of culture and difference established, this session will help students develop intercultural communication skills and identify the obstacles to intercultural relations.  There will be pre-module work to complete that will be announced in Module I.
